We arrived in Deadwood, S. Dakota this afternoon around 4:30. The drive across northern Wyoming was extraordinary.....absolutely incredible. What a beautiful country we live in. And how blessed Chuck and I are to have been able to see so many beautiful things on this trip.
Chuck and I were huge fans of the HBO series Deadwood, so we have been so anxious to visit here. As soon as we were settled in, we headed for downtown to check it out. It was a lot different than I expected it to be, but still charming and full of history. Many of the buildings are historic landmarks and throughout the city there are informational markers showing the view from that same spot, but back in the late 1800's. Most of the buildings house casinos now. We had a wonderful dinner at the Silverado Casino and lost $20 in the slot machines there.......LOL.....I know......high rollers, huh?
We saw the saloon where Wild Bill Hickok was murdered. They actually did a re-enactment of the capture of his murderer, and we were able to attend his trial. It was really interesting, and of course, they really got into it and made it fun for everyone.
Tomorrow, we are going to Mount Moriah Cemetery, where Calamity Jane, Wild Bill Hickok and some of the other legendary characters are buried.
