Just hangin' out in Cody, Wyoming

Arrived in Cody yesterday afternoon. What a cool little town...and I do mean little........downtown is all of two blocks long! Lots of little shops and galleries, museums and cool places to eat.

Yesterday, we visited Old Trail Town, which is a collection of authentic wooden cabins complete with furnishings. Outside of each cabin was information about who lived in it and some of the history. We really enjoyed looking back into time. There was a saloon, a school house, blacksmith and livery stables, Butch Cassidy's Hole in the Wall cabin and others. Inside some of the cabins were actual letters written back in the 1800's, referring to gunfights, etc. There was a small graveyard there, too, and Jeremiah Johnson is buried there. Next to each grave was a placard telling that person's story. Really interesting...

Last evening we went to the Cody Rodeo. The rodeo is HUGE in Cody. Everyone is into it. They do it every single night all year round. Being an animal lover, I didn't like the calf roping and that type of thing, but I did enjoy the stunt riding and was amazed at how young some of the competitors were! I swear some of those kids looked no bigger than our 5 year old grandson, David. And there were lots of girls competing, too. It was a great evening and we really enjoyed it.

Today, FINALLY, the sun is shining again and it is in the 70's. Much better biking weather. :-)
In a little while, we're going to head back into town to the Irma Hotel, which is a historic hotel that Buffalo Bill Cody built for his youngest daughter. It's really cool inside.....they've tried to keep it as authentic as possible. Every evening at 6PM there is a gunfight on the street in front of the Irma Hotel. Sounds like great fun......

Well, we're back from the big gunfight at the Irma Hotel. It was so much fun to watch. The actors perform it for local charities and they really seem to love hamming it up.

Before the gunfight we had a drink at the famous cherry wood bar that was given to Buffalo Bill Cody by the Queen of England back in the early 1900's as a thank you gift to him for taking his wild west show to England to perform before the Queen. It is absolutely beautiful. All around the bar were photos taken back in the early 1900's of folks sitting at this very same bar.

Bright and early tomorrow morning we'll be leaving beautiful Cody. Next stop: Deadwood, South Dakota.
